Before people decide to get involve with anything you should do your own research.  The best place to start is the Better Business Bureau provides reports on businesses and charities to help consumers and donors make informed decisions, helps resolve consumer complaints, and promotes ethics in business.

Most of the businesses that you get emails about are not legit businesses so you really have to be very careful when you are doing your own research. These are some of the better known home base businesses.
 

• Quixtar/Amway has been in business for over 50 years.  To keep up with the times it went to an online company that has over a million products that people use every day. Such as Laundry Detergent, Softener Sheets, Coffee, Energy Bars, Energy Drinks, Vitamins, Make-up, cleaners and anything that families use. This web site is for families that do not like to shop or do not have time to shop.  The site not only sell their own products, they also have over 75 partner stores some of them are Sears, K mart, and Best Buy. So, it would be your job to show people how to use this web site for there benefit. Then the online company will pay the Independent business owner a percentage of what people buy off the site because you are promoting the site and not some big firm! Then after you feel comfortable with the business you can start mentoring others so you will have more people buying from the site. That is the basic concept of this business and many other businesses.

• Avon has been in business for over 120 years. With their 5,000 Independent Sales Representative worldwide, Avon is one of the world's leader in anti-aging skincare, fragrances and color cosmetics.  This business too works on a percent of sales and if you want to be a mentor to others you can make your income increase. 

• Mary Kay has been in business for over 45 years. With their consultants, everyday people, they sell beauty and skin care products for men and women. The CBS Evening news reported cosmetics is a 5.5 million dollar industry.  For under $150 you can start your own part time business with Mary Kay but always do your own research to make an inform decision.

• Tastefully simple

• Passion Parties, Inc. offers women the opportunity to own and manage their own business, while promoting sexual awareness and well-being.

These businesses use similar direct-selling business models.  Before the internet these business models were very hard however with the use of the internet these models became easier and more popular. But always do your own research before you start any business.
