President of Mount Ida
To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing this letter to recommend William Picard to your Student
Activities Board should they be interested in a unique comedy act. As
President of Mount Ida College, I try to attend as many student
activities as possible. I did attend Bill’s comedy act at Mount Ida.
This is the first time that I have been so impressed that I wanted to
write a reference letter regarding Bill’s unique talent to not only
engage the audience, but to use comedy in a way that helps the
audience understand individuals with different abilities and in
particular, allow them to laugh along the way.
When I saw Bill “wheel” up onto the stage and then address the
audience with his voice liberator, I knew I was in for a special act.
The room was filled, and I was curious to observe how our students
would respond to and possibly interact with Bill. He was quickly able
to put the audience at ease. They weren’t sure when he was cracking
jokes about himself and his particular unique circumstance whether
they should laugh even though what he was saying was quite funny and
they could relate to it. Well, it did not take long and Bill had the
audience laughing all the time. If you read Bill’s material, you will
find that he uses comedy as a means to educate that he has the same
goals as everyone. Regardless of one’s disability, it is how you
approach those goals that makes a difference.
Our students were very impressed with him. He was able to keep their
attention throughout the performance. I know that they now have a new
found respect and perspective for individuals who may be physically
challenged. I would strongly encourage you to bring him to your campus
if you are looking for a comedy act that is entertaining as well as
educational.
Sincerely,
Carol J. Matteson, Ph.D.
